Self Help App

What I like about this project is I think the feature of some social environments, especially for somewhere that people have trouble to make appointment with doctors. things might changed after the birth of i-doctor system, but using smartphone to do self-check will always be the trend. (link to youtube: iDoctor Could a smartphone be the future of medicine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r13uYs7jglg ) The theme of my app project is self-help. The purpose of making this app is to let people check their own body conditions and find some basic solution for them when they are feeling not very well, such as cold and shoulder-ache. The inspiration comes from my daily life. When I feel like I am going to get sick soon and some symptoms appear inside my body such as headache, scratchy throat, I always want to go online to figure out what is wrong with my body, and then find a way to stop it. Usually the symptoms are not strong enough for u to go to the clinic (plus u need to wait in there forever), so I came up an idea to make an app that can give suggestion when people are feeling sick. The main color I […]

Straw Sculpture

This sculpture is inspired by the structure of coral. The idea of making some natural form into sculpture with one type of artificial object in a massive amount comes from an article I’ve read. It talks about the principles of design come from nature, as well as the principles of beauty – because we as human beings, are a part of nature too; we are made with nature, so that our taste of beauty comes from nature too. If we look at nature closely, from every single little life, we can see art, we can make design out of it.

The History of Condom – booklet design

This is one of the graphic design project I have done during school. I was assigned to do a booklet for an object to introduce its history, and I came up with the idea of making a booklet for condom.  After doing research, I found out actually condom has a long history. I wanted to make the booklet looks fun enough from visual aspect just for drawing attention from readers, but I didn’t want to go too close to the sexual excitement. Therefore, the key point of doing this project is to balance the interest of the readers. I have picked some primary colours for this booklet design such as yellow, pink, and black, and I think each of them represents some characteristics of condom and the culture behind it: exciting, sexual, and mysterious.

The Call

The Call is the first short film (it might be too short to be called real “film”) I have made as a final project for my visual effect compositing class. The film or sequences I am going to make are related with my dream. The ultimate project seems a bit strange and does not make any sense due to the psychedelic atmosphere and the random objects appear in the shoots, but by combining all those elements together, this project reach the sense of delusion that is hopefully similar with those classical surrealist films. Dali’s work was my 2D inspiration this time due to its psychedelic atmosphere that fit into the theme I am focusing on, and the way he merges the background and objects together can be used as an reference ( light source, contrast of sizes, color balance etc.). It starts with a girl waking up from the bed, and noticing that a lot of objects in her room (book, pen, cup etc.) are floating. She closes her eyes and after she opens it and she realizes that she is facing the sea. Far away from her, several giant plates are rising up behind the sea. (I regard developing the atmosphere of […]

This is Not A Wall

I found those beautiful walls with interesting textures in a small village. When I was in China during the summer, some friends invited me to go to a village which is located deeply inside the mountain. My grandmother was raised around that area, and my father also had lived in that area for several years when he was young. Therefore, deep inside my heart, I believe that I am emotionally attached with that small village and the people over there. Without any thinking, I brought a camera and a sketchbook with me for my trip to that small village. Once I got into that village, I realized how old the place is by looking at those wall of the houses. I suddenly felt that those walls were not only just walls, they have became canvases, and every mark, every piece of the dirt has became the paint colour. Time is the brush. What this series of work do is to remind people of the beauty of something that is created by both human being and nature. Below is some information and picture of the village: Hongcun (Chinese: 宏村; pinyin: Hóngcūn, lit. “Hong village”) is a village in Yi County county, […]
